Formula
Fold type sets cut-strip width; strip joins or estimated continuous-bias area determine material.
Assumptions
- Join allowance is lost from usable strip length.
- Continuous-bias area and equal-area square side are planning estimates, not cutting templates.
When a tested commercial pattern gives different cutting dimensions or layout instructions, follow that pattern.
Worked example
- 2,000 mm finished length
- 10 mm finished double-fold binding
- 300 mm usable fabric width
The 40 mm cut strip needs an estimated 80,000 mm² of area. Its equal-area square side is 282.843 mm, which fits within 300 mm of usable width.
Verification note
Do not order 282.843 mm as if it were a complete cutting plan. Test the seam offset and cutting path with a paper model before cutting the full binding supply.
